About Countly

Countly is a small collection of text utilities built around one idea: counting and cleaning text should be instant, free and private. Every tool runs entirely in your browser using plain JavaScript — nothing you type is uploaded, logged or stored on a server.

Who uses Countly

Students checking essay limits, journalists trimming to a word count, marketers writing meta tags, developers cleaning up data lists and speakers timing a script. If your work involves words, there is probably a tool here for it.

How we keep it free

Countly is supported by clearly labelled display advertising. Ads never cover or interrupt a tool, and we do not gate any feature behind a login or subscription.

Accuracy

Word counts follow the same rule as common word processors: any run of letters, numbers, apostrophes or hyphens between whitespace is one word. Reading time assumes 225 words per minute and speaking time 130 words per minute — both adjustable in the reading time calculator.
